FYRE FESTIVAL II IS ‘FINALLY HAPPENING’, ANNOUNCES DISGRACED FOUNDER
JOHANNESBURG – Having failed spectacularly with his first attempt at organising a music festival, convicted fraudster Billy McFarland has announced his plans to recreate the infamous Fyre Festival.
McFarland raised eyebrows on Monday when he tweeted about reviving the festival.
His post read, “Fyre Festival II is finally happening. Tell me why I should invite you.”
After his announcement, the internet was flooded with memes, jokes, and ridicule.
Following his guilty plea to wire fraud charges, and a forfeiture order of NZ$42 million after allegations of defrauding more than 100 investors, he was jailed.
Earlier last year, he was released from his six-year prison sentence.
A Netflix documentary about McFarland’s chaotic Fyre Festival saw him shoot to fame. Fyre Festival was originally promoted as a luxurious music festival in the Bahamas.
Upon arrival, hundreds of partygoers, some of whom paid more than NZ$161,000 each, found accommodation that looked like relief camp tents, and were fed not much more than sandwiches.
