This year’s festival is set to take place between 8-11 February 2024, at the much-loved, original farm on the banks of the Breede River just outside of Swellendam in the Cape. By now, Creekers know they’ll be getting some of the freshest sounds on the local music scene. The festival is now calling all their loyal Creekers who have made the vibe what it is today, to grab their festie-besties and join in celebrating the return of the ultimate outdoor music festival.
Established in 1990, the music festival has grown from strength to strength and now returns in 2024 after a 3 -year Covid hiatus. It has always remained intimate (limited to only 2,500 Creekers) and filled with great local music, good food, short queues, and a whole lot of gees.
What is a Creeker you ask?
The super-valued Creekers are always at the forefront of redefining the outdoor music festival experience. They live the story of music and the connection to nature. Grab your inflatable croc, orca or swan and head on down to the Breede River. That’s a Creeker, plain and simple.
Yes, there are the 10 Creeker Commandments which every Creeker follows, new or old Creekers alike:
-
Come as you are, everyone is special.
-
Bring a vibe or bring your tribe. Or bring both!
-
Braai is kiff, but not at the Creek. Sadly, no open fire dances.
-
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find out what the environment means to me!
-
We’ll float your boat, you bring the floatie.
-
Love thy neighbour, the Creek support staff and cleaners. High fives are rewarded with good karma.
-
Live music is magic. Treat it with honour.
-
Party with care. Forgetting your name and tent location is a lus.
-
Ice + Water = Liquid Gold
-
Tan lines will fade, but the memories will remain.
Up The Creek is a well-oiled machine, with the same core, organiser team in place over the last 10 years. They’re a family of believers that come together for each Up The Creek festival with the Creeker at heart, but also with the local area community that so thrive on the employment that the festival brings to the Swellendam area.
‘’Surround yourself with the best. Our set-up crew has been the same Team since 2017. Our cleaning crew have 47 years service to Up The Creek between them. Our rubbish and recycling team is a group of locals we empowered and in 2024 they will do the contract for the 5th year. Our festival electrician, Evans, has been with the festival from the beginning, 30+ years and still making sure we are connected. Most of the weekend core crew have been in their positions for 5 years and longer with Cristina, the band coordinator, doing the job for 10+ years. So we are one big family and every year Up The Creek is like a family reunion with crew and attendees alike.’’ – Anna-Mart Halderman, Production Manager
Local hitmaker and muso, Jeremy Loops, along with BreakOut Events founder and event-industry veteran, Damon Forbes, are proud to announce their festival buy-in partnership for Up The Creek outdoor music festival. Both Jeremy and Damon have years of entertainment and live event experience under their belts and look to bring a wealth of knowledge and impact for the already popular outdoor music festival. Jeremy Loops is a multi-award winning South African singer, songwriter, event and record producer with an extensive career on local and international stages. Jeremy and Damon join the Up The Creek festival team, Annie Sowden as event founder and Caitlin Hanley as Festival Director – together they’re set to take Up The Creek to new heights as a powerhouse festival team.
“We’re stoked to welcome Jeremy Loops and Damon Forbes as our partners. As the second oldest festival in South Africa, Up The Creek, has been running for more than 30 years and having these guys on board brings a wealth of expertise and fresh ideas to the table. With their extensive industry experience, we can’t wait for them to help enhance the experience for die-hard Creekers while attracting a new wave of festival-goers. Together, we’re going to be weaving an awesome tapestry of tradition and innovation” – Annie Sowden, Up The Creek Founder.
