When school boy Rushawn sang Jermaine Edwards’, “It’s a Beautiful” day in his classroom over six years ago, little did he know that it was on the cards for him to become a singing sensation and inspiration.
When the video resurfaced on Instagram and TikTok, The Kiffness started getting messages from fans to give the adorable video his signature remix treatment, which he happily obliged.
“At this point, all I knew was that the boy’s name was Rushawn. I always try my best to reach out to the people I collaborate with before putting these videos out, but despite my best efforts I couldn’t get hold of Rushawn beforehand. But with the power of my friends on the Internet, I was soon able to connect with him soon after putting the video out,” Dave Scott of The Kiffness told me when I reached out to chat about It’s a Beautiful Day (Reprise)”.
“Soon after putting the video out, I came to know that the song was actually written by a Jamaican gospel artist, Jermaine Edwards. We were in touch soon after the video started going viral and we were able to negotiate a way forward with releasing the song officially. Jermaine has been a great guy to work with, and he’s been helping Rushawn through the whole process of setting up accounts for his royalties and getting him signed up with the relevant royalty collection agencies in Jamaica. It gives me great pleasure in knowing that this song will empower Rushawn in whatever he chooses to pursue in life going forward.”
To date the song has accumulated over 4 million streams on Spotify, reaching #6 on their Global Viral 50 Chart and #2 on the US Viral 50 Chart respectively.
Nicole Scherzinger also used the track in her reel to welcome the new year, while Hilary Duff recently added it to one of her stories. And with over 23 million views on Instagram, 10 million views on Facebook and over 5 million views on YouTube, this track is well on its way to being a milestone achievement for The Kiffness.
“At the end of the day, I’m just glad to be part of something with such a pure and positive message, a message that we should all be grateful for each day despite what our circumstances may be. I’m a firm believer in the idea that an attitude of gratitude will determine your altitude. If you stay humble and give thanks to the Lord for each day, he will bless you in good times and give you peace in troubled times,” Scott explained.
