UP THE CREEK OUTDOOR MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE ARTIST SEARCH

THE WINNING ARTIST OR BAND WILL SECURE A PERFORMANCE SPOT ON THE FESTIVAL’S FAMOUS RIVERSTAGE ON SATURDAY 8 FEBRUARY, AND JOIN A LINEUP OF OVER 50 OTHER ARTISTS AT THE FESTIVAL

[South Africa, 20 December 2024] -With less than two months to go and Summer upon us, the countdown to Up the Creek 2025 is moving faster than a lilo to the river! Phase 1 Early Bird tickets sold-out (in less than an hour), and only a limited number of Phase 2 tickets are available for the 4-day Summer festival. Also announced, two new ticket types – Day passes for Saturday 8 February and a Group ticket for four people.

The 2025 festival not only kicked off with a major ticket rush – now with a solid lineup to boot, and much more to come. Plus camping and glamping options to live your best life, or for a more one-with-nature vibe.

Upping the local ante – festival organisers and co-owners – Jeremy Loops and BreakOut Events’ Damon Forbes are on a mission to further uplift the local music scene and offer a platform for new and aspiring artists and bands to perform at Up The Creek next year. Announcing the #CreekArtistSearch, in partnership with KFM 94.5, One artist/band will have the chance to secure a set on the Flying Fish River Stage on Saturday, February 8 2025, giving them the opportunity to perform to the festival’s 2,500-strong audience.

Looking for that big break? Entrants need to show why they deserve a spot at Up The Creek 2025 by posting a video to their socials, tag @kfmza & @upthecreek_festival with the hashtags #KFMxUpTheCreek #CreekArtistSearch.

The T&C’s: Winning band/artist will be announced by 17 January 2025. The selected winner will be compensated for their travel costs, but will need to provide their own camping gear should they elect to stay overnight at the festival. See the post here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DDwtAWeMbkm/

Phase 1 artists have already been revealed – Australia’s Hollow Coves, and local legends Francois Van Coke, Matthew Mole, The Black Cat Bones, Albert Frost, Droomsindroom, Die Piesangskille, Unyazi, Ben Dey, Murray, Lucy Kruger and the Lost Boys, Warongx, Freddy L, and Luukhanyo & The Hii Rollers.

Established in 1990, Up The Creek has managed to adapt, grow and refine an authentic, no-nonsense personality while staying true to its original culture. Honouring only South African artists for three decades, Up The Creek has paved a pioneering path in the South African music festival circuit by offering a smaller, more intimate experience.

Annie’s partner at the time, Anthony, was turning 40 in 1990. They both shared a deep love for rock ‘n’ roll and owned the Up The Creek camp from which they ran a river rafting adventure business. Annie secretly invited all of Anthony’s friends to attend his surprise birthday party that would be held at the camp. Each guest was asked to contribute R10 towards payment for the three bands (one of which was named The Worst) that Annie arranged to perform at the party.

When 100 guests showed up, Anthony expected a fun weekend of canoeing, spit roasts and having a great time with friends. But when the first band rocked up and asked, “Where can we plug in?”, he sensed that something much bigger was about to happen.

The birthday party turned into three days of unrivalled fun, continuous music and non-stop dancing. The birth of Up The Creek.

From celebrity weddings to surprise riverside opera performances and laughter yoga sessions at sunrise. From live performances on a Pied Piper-like jam van’s rooftop stage, to bikini-clad Creekers taking first prize with a drifting four-poster bed in the Anything That Floats Competition. We’ve seen a lot of weird and wonderful things over the years…
